BNS 2023 vs IPC 1860 — Complete Legal Guide

BNS 2023 vs IPC 1860 — Complete Legal Guide

Why BNS 2023 Matters

From 1st July 2024, the Indian Penal Code 1860 has been replaced by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023. Every FIR, bail application, charge sheet, and criminal trial now proceeds under BNS.

Advocates must know the correct section equivalents. Businesses must understand new offences like organised crime (Sec 111), terrorism (Sec 113), and digital fraud expansions. Citizens must know what is decriminalised — such as attempt to suicide.
