Full Fees demand from school

Naveen B asked 4 years ago
Hello Madam / Sir, My Son is studying in UKG at a school in Tambaram. Due to the recent pandemic situation, he couldn't go to school but, he is appearing for online classes. the annual fee for him is 32000/- plus 6000/- for activity material called FLINTO which shall be provided if he is appearing at school. Due to the current situation the management has informed parents by a call that 6000/- shall be accounted to Annual fees. Currently, there is a demand from the school to settle the full fee and without this, they were threatening that they won't conduct any exams for my kid. The following are my concerns which I feel that their demand for full fees is not justified.
  1. the classes were conducted for only 10 mins until recently it has been extended to 20 mins per day where the majority of the responsibility in educating the kid falls on parents.
  2. The classes are conducted over a WhatsApp call where the quality of the class is substandard for a UKG student to attend the class over a 5-inch mobile screen. Other schools were conducting their classes on Microsoft Teams / Zoom ...where the quality of the class is good and could be attended over a 10-inch screen Tablet or Computer with a bigger screen.
  3. When the above 2 points are high lighted to the school and asked for fee reduction the management is proposing to send recorded videos with a 20% fee waiver on the 32000 + 6000 which is not justified.
  4. They are not sure if they could assess my kid and promote him to the next class with the recorded video classes for the said 20% fee waiver, and I see denial to conduct exams. In my opinion, the fee waiver should be 20% of the 32000/- annual fee.
  5. I'm being pressurized by the management to pay the fee by this week and without this, they could not let my kid appear for the exams. I already paid 16000/- as a first installment which includes the 6000/- towards the activity material.
Please help me know if their demand is justified. I'm ready to take the legal path if my reasons are valid. Regards, Naveen. B
